World Corps India (WCI) facilitated the establishment of a Rice Appalam (Papad/Indian Chips) Making Factory in Pulivendla village, Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh by bring together government, banking institutions, private enterprises and community partners. Eighty young women and twenty men of Pulivendla village were selected from among 800 unemployed applicants for the Rice Appalam Making Factory. These men and women have formed a Co-operative Society - "Annapurna Appalam Manufacturing Industrial Cooperative Society Ltd., and will play dual role of employees as well as members of the Co-operative Society. The beneficiaries contributed 10% of the project cost and the rest came as loans from the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Kadapa and State Bank of India, Pulivendla which would be repaid in a span of 4-5 years.

M/s Wishwa Foods, a Chennai based company, who are already into similar kind of production have been identified by WCI for marketing the entire production of the Cooperative Society. The products are being marketed in the brand name of “aaHA”. These products are even being sold by urban women Self Help Group (SHG) members in the Chennai region, giving them an income-generating opportunity. WCI facilitated in bringing all the stakeholders together and provided the Entrepreneurial and Skill development training to the members of the Society.
