Public Private Partnership programme for Employment Generation at Kuppam

World Corps India in partnership with public and private stakeholders has initiated a public private partnership programme for employment generation for 1,000 unemployed rural youth in the 100 gram panchayats of Kuppam constituency through self-employment training, establishment of market driven micro enterprises and market tie-up with industrial partners.

The Public-Private partnership programme was launched on 7th December 2002 by The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri. N. Chandra Babu Naidu in the presence of the industrial partners, dignitaries and citizens of Kuppam. World Corps India facilitated S.P.Garments, a Chennai based export company to set up a manufacturing unit at Kuppam. Once established it is expected to Create more than  2,000  jobs  in   Kuppam  especially for women SHGs

that will be given embroidery work by the company. Other companies that will be working in partnership with WCI include Sri Traders, Bangalore for agarbathi/incense stick making and Balaji Hatcheries, Chittoor for poultry farming.

Youth Employment Summit (YES) 2002, Alexandria

Thousands people gathered together for the Youth Employment Summit at

Alexandria, Egypt to launch a Decade Campaign of Action in 2002, so that an additional 500million young adults, especially youth facing poverty, will have productive and sustainable livelihoods by the year 2012. The Mission of the Youth Employment Summit is to seed a civil society movement to stimulate and inspire the development of programmes and policies worldwide in order to ensure that the youth have access to the education and training programmes, skills development opportunities, resources, and credit that they need to build productive and sustainable livelihoods.
