“I am
very happy and feel that I have done some common good for
the people of my home town” -Viswanath
Reddy, V.Kota Community Information Centre (VCIC).
|
Information has become a critical
resource for
enabling people to achieve and advance. And
the means to access information is through the use of
Information Technology. Therefore one of the focus areas
of VCIC is to build capacity of the community in
accessing information. This capacity can be built only
if the people are educated about the usage of computers
and given quality training at affordable price.
In this perspective V.Kota Community Information Centre
(VCIC) had taken an initiative to make the people in
their mandal computer literate.VCIC trained the local
community on basic computers and operations (hands on
training) in association with the NIIT branch of
Kuppam. VCIC mobilized 27 people who come
from different sections of the community and professions
and offered them training. The duration of the course
offered was for one month.
The course was started in the
month of February 2003. VCIC arranged classroom and
systems for training. NIIT provided the faculty and
agreed to give course completion certificates. Students
participated with keen interest and enthusiasm. It was
further decided to offer advanced courses in computers
at a reasonable price.
A function was conducted on 17th March 2003 for awarding
course completion certificates in basics of computers.
Opinion on the training programme was collected from the
students. And most of the trainees who completed the
course are government officials, NGO leaders and local
businessmen.
